2008-11-13 - The Shack
I am not yet finished with the book but it is an excellent read so far. It has challenged my thoughts of who God is in every sense. I would not have believed that I was putting God in a box until I started to read this book. This book can be a challenge to any one who reads it, to see God in a different light.
2008-11-13 - A Do Not Read . . .
I read this book in a day . . . good story. Key word "story"! I will not recommend this book to anyone because I fear it will be taken literally and as truth. Anyone that wants to know God need only pick up the Bible, a good Bible study, attend a Bible based church. Papa is a great "character", but for real life change don't go to Papa, go to the Father.
The line - that's why you'll never find the word responsibility in the scriptures - please . . . God does need us to be responsible, He has a part and we have a part.
2008-11-13 - Truly a journey, if you are ready
This was the most amazing book I have read in a long time. I average 2 books a month, and this is the first one in years that made me search my soul and allowed me to weap. I know understand why I have had to go through what I have. I am giving this to all my close friends and family for Christmas.
2008-11-13 - Why Does Jesus as a Jew have a big nose?
I was given this book by a friend and out of curiousity and respect decided to read it. I was reading this with an open mind. Unfortunately my open mind did not help me get through this book. I was insulted that Jesus, because he was a Jew had a big nose which surprised poor Mack. I guess having God as an obese black woman was okay, but Jesus had to fit the Jewish stereotype. I confess I speed read the rest and found it to be sentimental, corny, and confusing. If it helps Christians feel better about their faith, great. But I would sincerely hope there is some other book or inspiration that would be more helpful.
2008-11-13 - The Shack
I bought this book on the recommendation of people who had read it and said once you start you can not put it down. My experience differs. Maybe it is because I bought it as an audio book, but I thought it was long and boring.
The story line catches you at first, but by the time you get to the shack it bogs down. The conversations were never ending - or at least that's what it felt like. As a Christian I understand (like, even) the author's choices of characters for God, Jesus and Holy Spirit, but this is not really a Christ centered book. I guess disappointing may be the best way to describe my feelings.
Not a book I reccommend.
