2008-11-26 - 2nd Half Better
I was reading this and thinking "This is nothing we haven't heard before." The first half of the book contains many stories that have been told on the Stern show but just in a bit more detail. If you're a super fan you'll know. I didn't care about the long shoreman work or even when he got started on MadTv
Then when he started really abusing the alchohol and going into tirades in public, it got a lot more interesting. I can relate being an abuser of Klonopin (not that he was) and alchohol as well. I really like Artie. I could really feel the hell of his withdrawal and desire to get his fix. It's a beast that makes you completely dysfunctional. I hope Artie continues to stay on the straight and narrow. (That was the latest according to the Stern show.) But I also understand the need to go back.
The end was touching with the USO and all. This book proves to me that he has really come a long way and has learned a lot through all his endeavors and it shines through in his memoir. I love you Artie!
And the cover picture is awesome!!!
2008-11-26 - Funny and Entertaining
Excellent! Artie is a fantastic story teller. This is a fully entertaining read.
2008-11-25 - Artie lange book review
This is a well put together book, but not a book for comedy if that is what you are looking for. it is instead a book about life and the pitfalls we all sometimes put ourselves in and must deal with. for additive personalities this book will relate to you, but those looking for laughs solely should attend one of his shows instead. overall great read though and I would recommend to friends.
2008-11-25 - This down to earth GIANT of a book, shook me awake!
I wish this book had been published while I was struggling with the first draft of my first book. Artie found his voice and timing do to his very successful talent as a comedian. Most writers will say that your book must have a consistant pace and flow. Artie's prose, however, are just real and heartfelt. My 20 yr heroin addiction ended just 4 months into writng that first draft of my first book back in 1991. After reading To Fat To Fish, I want to tell my story again; only do it better. Like Artie did. I love you ya fat f***! Robert M. Appleton (author)
2008-11-25 - Too Fat to Fist
Artie has an endearing personality and is a compelling storyteller. He also has a big heart of gold. All of this comes through in his book. I hope he writes more.
Take care of yourself Artie.
